Speaking Of Clones

This tomato was grown last year. When fully ripe it tasted very good. Yum Yum.

This fellow grew this year. They must be related. I'm waiting for him to ripen so I can eat him too. Nosey little guys, eh?

Amons, Father & Son

This makes me wonder. Did Michael, while doing medical research, do some work on human cloning in his spare time? He seems to have produced a replica of himself.

Little Brother Spruce

When I replaced our front deck 3 years ago, this little tree was growing under the deck, right up against the cement foundation. it was just a few inches tall when I transplanted it in the lawn. I wasn't sure it would grow, but here it is, well over a foot high and doing very well.

A Tree Grows In Sprucewood

In keeping with the name of our street, Sprucewood Drive, I planted a small blue spruce in 2004. It has grown about eight inches a year and now stands over three feet tall. I tried to post a picture for each year, but for the life of me I couldn't get the images to appear in the proper sequence

A Few Great Grandkids

Alex and Austin

Megan and Cole

From Newfoundland, Eric and Jamie.
These appear fairly well arranged when composed but I have no idea how they will look when posted. Although the pictures are of the kids at various ages, the youngest are at the top and the oldest at the bottom.

The Webcam

After much frustration, trial and error, experimentation and tearing of hair, we managed at last to establish contact by webcam. This is Couch Potato, late at night, after receiving an update from microsoft in response to an error report, as viewed on my computer monitor. I guess she was laughing at my unsightly appearance on her own screen.

Two Old Vets

Caught by a photographer for the local paper, two grizzled old vets shiver in the cold Yarmouth April weather at a ceremony held to commemorate the Battle of Vimy Ridge, fought by Canadian troops in the first world war. They don't look very happy. The one on the right looks vaguely familiar.

Nannan's Nanny

While delving through my slides, scanning some to put on a disk, I came across these two gems. Susan, (the name Nannan had not yet been coined), heard that goat's milk was very nutritious. So she decided to get herself a nanny, (goat). Here it is, tethered to a stake in the pasture. The problem was, she didn't know how to milk it. So she invited me over to give her a few pointers.

Now, I had no experience milking goats, although I had milked a lot of cows while growing up on a farm. A job we often referred to as "pulling tits". (never once, in my years on the farm, did I hear a farmer refer to those things as "teats). But I thought the principle must be the same so I agreed. Unlike milking a cow, which is done from the side, a goat is attacked from the rear. As I leaned over to do the job, I remarked to Susan, "I never thought I'd ever stoop to this".

Unfortunately, the goat project didn't pan out. Apparently the kids were not enamored with the taste of goat's milk. So poor Nanny lost her job. However, during her short stay, she aroused quite a bit of interest, as shown by her admirers here.

Ancient History

When we were posted to France in 1957, one of the first things I bought was a new camera. I have accumulated 13 trays of slides, each tray containing 140 images. Since my projector broke down recently I needed to find some way to make use of the pictures. When I saw a scanner with an feature allowing the copying of slides at a reasonable price, I took it home. Since them I have spent hours making copies.
Here is a picture I took at a cemetery near Marville, France. Hundreds of skulls, and a stack of arm and leg bones stacked up against the wall on the left. Kinda gruesome, eh? Lord knows how long ago these people passed away.
On a more cheerful note, Nannan is shown above with our new zephyr automobile, somewhere in France.

Days gone by

In going over some old stuff I ran across these two people. Theydidn't realize it at the time that one day they would become known in bloggerworld a NANNAN and TUFFYSMOM. The one on the left became FIREGUY.

Curling

Our curling season opened this week. To get things underway, the first rock was thrown by Guy Hemmings. Guy is a very popular curler from Quebec, a fan favorite of those who have watched him live or on television. I was asked to hold the broom for the ceremony and two of our junior curlers were the sweepers.
Guy and two assistants were touring Canda for the Canadian Curling Association to promote the sport. They were visiting all the clubs in the area, working with local curlers. A reception was held at the club where he signed a lot of autographs and had his picture taken with many of those present.
I wore my vintage curling sweater for the event, one I knitted myself over forty years ago.

Life and times of a cat

My name is Kayla. Fireguy adopted me and brought me home. My age is unknown, and I'm told I should lose some weight. I'm a little tired now after playing " The Flight of the Bumblebee".

Sometimes I take the SeaDoo out for a spin on Lake Milo.Fireguy said theTitanic had sunk in the lake so I thought I'd take a look.

Traveling Man was out tending the Sports Heritage Museum this morning so I thought I'd see what was on the radio.

Here I am in solemn prayer, hoping I won't be booted off of here. I wouldn't like to land in the doghouse!! It took quite a leap to get up here in the first place.

Oh well, now that I'm up here I might as well relax and listen to some music.

Sunday Shopping

It had to come. SUNDAY SHOPPING, I mean. After all, how many of those who voted against it never ate out, gassed up their car, got sick and had to get treatment, needed the fire department or police - on a Sunday. I know the Sunday Brunch at the Prince Arthur restaurant is always well attended.

I suppose I should have waited for a customer to show up before pressing my shutter at the Sobey's pumpkin pile, however, there were lots of cars in the parking lot.

At least I got a scene to remind us of Halloween and the myriads of trick and treaters who will be coming to visit in a couple of weeks.

Yes, I'm still alive, your infrequent blogger.

A Destiny Fulfilled

Now nicely ripened, my little tomato knew that its purpose in life had been attained, and like a suicide bomber, went happily to its reward.

I had it for lunch today, its little spout and all. It was delicious.

My Tomato Garden

I'm a little teapot
here's my spout
tip me over
pour me out

A product of my tomato garden. a nosey little fellow.
I've already had a few and there are lots more on the vines, but they are taking forever to ripen.

Bike Rally

On the weekend of September 9th, Halifax had its International air show. In Yarmouth, it was motorcycles. They came in droves, hundreds of them, from all over eastern North America.

At noon on Saturday they assembled on main street in downtown Yarmouth and traffic was closed for a while. They came in all shapes and sizes, all shined and polished to perfection

Here is a three seater, almost like a car, but steered with handle bars remotely connected to the front wheel. Great for a small family outing.

Here is a real sporty model. Imagine doing about about a hundred and fifty klicks down the highway on this. Hang onto your hats.

Now here's one for the young fry - or maybe there was a midget in the group.
After lunch they all proceeded to the airport where races were held on the runway not in use. They went one at a time making timed runs . In starting off, several of them did a wheelie when picking up speed. A good crowd was there to watch the performance.
